2012, bland, boring, cape fear, colin farrell, comparisons with the original, get your ass to mars, good remakes, over the top violence, reboot, reimagining, remake, satire, scarface, schwarzenegger, sequel, technology, total recall movie film review
This is why I’m not particularly fond of remakes. Reboots or reimaginings are fine, but remakes (especially in today’s era of filmmaking) tend to rehash older movies with a bigger budget, modern movie stars and excessive use of CGI — mostly because producers have the power to do so. There are exceptions, of course (Cape Fear (1991), Scarface (1983)), that don’t contribute to the bad reputation of the “remake”, but it seems like it’s becoming more and more common in Hollywood to tell the same story over and over rather than work on original ideas.
