Days Spent in the Company of Vinyl: #2: Sage Francis: Makeshift Patriot EP

Got acquainted with Sage Francis’ 12″ Makeshift Patriot EP on blue vinyl last night. Not a record to be played in the background; this needs your full attention for the social-commentary alone.

The title track is a killer response to the 9/11 attacks and the false solidarity of the government, media, people and country. Narcissist, another favourite, digs into the subject of identity.

Eye-opening stuff. The record was released in 2002, I think. There’s also a black version of the vinyl.

Sage’s Hip-Hop poetry is great listen and the crackling/static of the format gets the best out of him. Even the cat’s looking a little bit less tired with life since hearing the record spin.
